UGGs: almost every girl has them. And if they don’t have them, they want them. Looking down in the hallways, it’s guaranteed to see almost thirty pairs on the way to class. The second it got the tiniest bit colder, girls everywhere busted out their UGGs. And if you thought these boots were just a fad, you’re wrong. UGG boots ugg5879, ugg5816, ugg5325.ugg1872, ugg5819, ugg5818 are staying in, becoming more than a trend even, and moving on to a style. Fads are unpredictable and short lived. They usually don’t last long and fizzle after a short amount of time. If a fad doesn’t fizzle, it becomes a trend. Trends last longer than fads, but are still not permanent. Once a trend becomes a style, it’s permanent.
Jacquelyn Yao, a graduate from the Boston School of Fashion on Newbury Street said, “I think a fad becomes a trend when girls with original style learn to incorporate the fad throughout her wardrobe season to season. This keeps the fad on the surface and this way the fad is worn in a variety of ways and will most likely evolve into a trend.”
Last year, UGG Australia sold almost $712 million of sheepskin boots; more than the Yankees. Some people are wondering what girls are attracted to about these boots.
Senior Nora Vasconcellos, who does not like or wear UGGs, said, “I don’t like them. They’re way too expensive, and don’t go with anything. They’re unflattering, and I would never wear them. I don’t know why people wear them.”
Yao said, “Personally I really like UGGs- they’re my guilty pleasure. I usually wear mine when I’m having a Ben and Jerry’s day and I wear sweatpants as actual clothes. I think they’re so popular because they are a combination of a fad, trend, and personal style. A girl who wears uggs is always going to find an excuse to wear them, (like me), so they probably won’t die out for a long time.”
Senior Jenna Bonneau who has sand and black colored UGGs said, “UGGs are so easy to throw on, and they go with everything. I wear them the most in the winter, it’s way too cold out to wear anything else!” Winters get incredibly cold here in New England, so warmth seems to be a major factor in people deciding to buy and wear UGGs.
Senior Abby Thompson, who doesn’t own a single pair of UGGs said, “I think UGGs are clunky and kind of ugly. I don’t mind them on other people, but I wouldn’t wear them myself. I think that people just buy them because everyone else has them, not because they’re cute.” Junior Gabby Molignano, who owns three pairs including short chocolates, short chestnuts, and short pink crocheted UGGs, said, “UGGs aren’t the most fashion forward shoes, but they’re comfortable and practical for walking around after games and meets. And they’re perfect for comfy days.”
Junior Kathleen Lowe who has just one pair of grey UGGs said, “I think they’re comfy but I think they’re ugly. It depends how you wear them.” UGGs can be worn in many different ways. Sophomore Sophia Fontes, who owns three pairs of UGGs including sand tall UGGs, sand colored slippers and UGGs with a zipper said, “I wear my tall ones rolled. I like how you can see the fur, and I think they look cuter this way.”
Sophomore Kelsey Butler, who has the short chestnuts said, “I wear my UGGs regular, not rolled down. I have the shorter UGGs, and they look awkward rolled down.” No matter how you wear them, everyone’s main reason is comfort and warmth.
Junior Jessi Mitchell, who has black UGGs, sand colored UGGs, and chestnut UGGs, said, “I don’t think color matters, but you can wear UGG boots with really anything. So warm for winter!”
